LoanCalc Lab

Calculator disclaimer

Published · Updated

Every calculator on LoanCalc Lab is illustrative. You enter the amount, the rate, the term, and any fee the screen asks for. The tool applies a simplified reducing-balance monthly model and shows a payment, a schedule, or a comparison. That result is a worked example under your assumptions. It is not personalised financial advice, not a credit offer, and not a lender’s decision.

What the model is doing

The personal-loan payment tools assume interest is charged on a declining balance and that you pay once a month. Where a fee is optional, it is included only if you enter it, and the page says whether that fee is added to the amount borrowed or treated as an upfront cost. Amortisation, extra-payment, consolidation, refinance, and snowball versus avalanche tools share that monthly framing. Each page states its own assumptions beside the result. Read those lines before you treat a figure as meaningful.

Worked guides often reuse two labelled illustrations, EXAMPLE Loan A and EXAMPLE Loan B, so the same story can be followed from one page to another. The word EXAMPLE means the rate is chosen for teaching. It is not a rate we have negotiated and not a rate you should expect to be offered.

What the model leaves out

  • Rates, fees, and terms vary by lender and by country. We do not hold a panel of live prices.
  • A lender may use a different day-count, a daily interest accrual, or different rounding.
  • Flat-rate and add-on interest loans are out of scope. Do not force those contracts into these tools.
  • Early-settlement rebates, payment holidays, and promotional periods are not modelled unless a specific page says they are.
  • An “effective APR” style illustration on a tool is not a substitute for the APR a UK lender must disclose on a regulated agreement.
  • Nothing here looks at your credit history, income, or existing agreements.

How to use a result

Use a result to see the shape of a question: how a fee changes total cost, how a shorter term raises the monthly payment, or how directing extra money at the highest rate can change the payoff date. Then put the lender’s illustration next to it. If the two disagree, the lender’s disclosure is the one that describes that lender’s contract. Country toggles change currency symbols and payment labels. They do not import another country’s consumer-credit rules.

Rodway Labs is not a lender or a broker and does not claim FCA authorisation for these tools. If you need advice on whether borrowing is right for you, speak to a qualified adviser or a free debt-advice service, not to this website. The terms of use and the editorial policy explain the wider limits.

Illustrative only — not personalised financial advice and not a credit offer. Check the lender’s disclosure before you borrow.
